Overview

This unit of competency specifies the mandatory Work Health and Safety (WHS) training required before undertaking any construction work in Australia.
It covers the essential knowledge and skills needed to identify hazards, manage risks, and work safely on construction sites.

The training is approved by WorkSafe Victoria, ensuring it meets all state regulatory requirements for construction induction training.

Students will learn how to:

  • Identify and report common construction hazards
  • Apply basic risk control measures
  • Respond appropriately to incidents and emergencies
  • Select and correctly use personal protective equipment (PPE)

Successful completion of this unit meets the general construction induction (White Card) training requirements under:

  • Part 1.1 Definitions and Part 6.5 of the Model Work Health and Safety Regulations
  • Division 11 of Part 3 of the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 (WA)
  • Division 3 of Part 5.1 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007 (VIC)

Site-specific induction must also be completed before starting work on any construction site.
Licensing, legislative, and regulatory requirements apply. Students should confirm these with the relevant state or territory WHS authority.

Entry Requirements

To enrol in this course, prospective students must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of course commencement.
  • Have completed studies equivalent to at least Australian Year 10 or demonstrate an appropriate level of language, literacy and numeracy skills to undertake the training and assessment requirements.

Identification Requirement:

  • Students are required to present valid photographic identification on the day of training.
  • This is necessary to verify the student’s identity prior to course commencement and to meet regulatory and compliance obligations.
  • The identification must clearly show the student’s full name and photograph (e.g., driver’s licence, passport, or other government-issued ID).
